In Character Information
character name: Yvaine.
Fandom: Stardust (movie).
Timeline: Just after Tristan uses the Babylon Candle to save them from Lamia.
character's age: While she looks in her late 20s, Yvaine is a star, meaning, she is very, very old, ever since stars were created.
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Canon – she shines, whenever in a good or content mood. Only when her heart is full and complete she can shine by her own will. And that force of a star shining on earth can be enough to blind one, destroy one, break glasses, ruin buildings.
In Anatole she will, slowly and over time she will develop the ability to transfer her peace/joy to others by touch. This will only work at times when she'll be shining.
canon history:

personality:
Yvaine ("Evening Star") is the brightest of the stars, she appears in the west, providing guidance for those who travel at night, and bright light to lovers in their little nests. Many gaze up to see the star, not one of them knows, that Yvaine is gazing back. She has been doing it for centuries, just like every other star in the sky. And though she felt it quite a lot of longing, to be like them, to be excited and sad and happy, and to love, and be loved, Yvaine never imagined she will find herself on earth.
But she did. And like many great stories, Yvaine's fall from the sky inspired many other events who will have great affect over the world she arrived into. One night, Yvaine was gazing, much like every other star, at the king of the kingdom Stormhold. The old king was on his deathbed when he decided that he will not be the one to choose the heir of the kingdom. Instead he threw the symbol of Stormhold, a great ruby stone necklace, and declared that "he of royal blood" who first finds the ruby will become the next king. The king died, but the necklace, had a magic of its own, it flew far away, until they collided with a star, causing that star to fall down to earth.
One would think that stars are gentle, warm creatures. Well, Yvaine is not. She has quite the temper , a sharp wit and quite a lot of sarcasm. She's feisty from the very first moment, and she will not take orders from anyone, especially not from one idiotic Tristan Thorne. Yvaine complains, she yells a lot, and she insults Tristan. She's anything but ladylike. She's just a star who was minding his own business when he was rudely thrown to the earth, only to be hit later by the 'magical flying moron', as she calls Tristan. And Yvaine had many, many centuries to develop her witty comments. She's clever and she's hardly a damsel in distress. Yet like every star, Yvaine is naive and innocent. She will trust people easily. Such as the Witch Lamia who posed for a human, and was, of course, interested in her heart. Yvaine had seen evil, yet she doesn't really understand that in order to not trust the people she meets, that can land in her trouble.
Despite her sharp tongue, one can't say her personality is negative. During her time on earth, she blooms. And once she and Tristan stops bickering, she becomes civil, if not pleasant. Captain Shakespeare the pirate gains her trust and friendship, and on his ship with Tristan, Yvaine begins to glow. The truth is, she can hold her own in a bickering match, but her heart is warm, and she's honest. She doesn't know much of the world she was watching, and nothing of emotions. And so it's hard for her to hide her emotions, she can't help but glow, even though it exposes her feelings. Yvaine experiences everything without holding back; she loves entirely, she aches completely. She doesn't know what it's like to be 'a little happy' or 'just a bit sad', she can't experience half of an emotion, she feels it all, and she shows it.
One more thing about Yvaine is the subject of love. She begins by saying she knows nothing of it, doesn't understand it.
But the truth it, Yvaine longs for love. In all her long years she had watched Earth, love was one of the only things she enjoyed watching. Wars and manipulation, evil and sickness; those things made her want to turn her head from human beings but their love, the way they love, inspired something in her. She doesn't like Victoria for making Tristan prove his life since to her, love shouldn't be about presents or proofs; it should be selfless and complete. Just your heart given to another; in exchange for his. So Yvaine is a romantic at heart, with experience of many years, she knows wars are nothing yet love remains.
Yvaine may have watched the Earth for centuries but there are many things she can't understand. Stars, by nature, are not selfish, they do not understand hypocrisy or lies; they are honest and open, straightforward and in a way, socially awkward. But in a way it makes Yvaine see things other people do not; you may compare it to a way a child sees the world yet with centuries of intelligence. Yvaine is clever and with her inexperience with the ways of the world she sees things like an outsider to society. When Captain Shakespeare speaks of pretending to be someone he is not, and says he will always be true to himself and not let others dictate how he lives, Yvaine remarks 'yes, why would anyone wish to do that?', which has Tristan thinking about his own life. Yvaine's way of seeing the world is refreshing, devoid of any lies or pretense; she is herself, and she cannot understand some of the motivations of men to spend their already short lives lying.
One last thing, she sees potential in people. She is able to be kind, as said, but being as old as she is she can see in people potential they do not see in themselves. She insists that Tristan he is not a shop boy, just a boy who happens to work at a shop. She sees in him, eventually, the potential of being the king he will one day become.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
Horror, monsters, murder, terrible things – Yvaine had seen them all during her long life. She experienced some of it, she knows every man and witch in the world she had reached to wants to cut out her heart and eat it to become immortal. She is no stranger to horror, and while it may take her time to re-adjust herself, she will eventually be alright.
Writing Samples
Network Post Sample:
[ At first nothing is seen but long platinum hair, soaked with water. Then the picture clears to show a woman wearing nothing but a bathrobe and a very expensive looking necklace; a big ruby in the middle of it.
She doesn't look happy at all. ]
Well this is bloody wonderful, really just charming.
Tristan? Tristan? You stupid idiot, where have you taken us to?! This can't be wall – what were you thinking about when you said 'home?!'
[ She looks so annoyed, still frowning at the Forge. ]
What is this box? Tristan? Can you hear me? You better still have that Babylon Candle or I'll –
[ She takes a deep breath and then gets up and walks to the window, looking up at the night sky.]
I was thinking of my home – and he was thinking of his but this can't be a place between the two –
[ She's quiet for a moment before she opens the window and shouts out: ]
Tristan if you won't come here right now I am leaving and we will never get to your stupid Wall or your stupid Victoria for her stupid birthday.
Third Person Sample:
"Think of home."
There was fire in the room; red and unnaturally green flames. Yvaine's heart was, as the witch had noticed, filled with fear.
They were going to die. Tristan was here, but what can the idiot do? She will kill him and then rip out her heart – and eat it.
She was so stupid to have gone in here to begin with.
But then Tristan took out his Babylon Candle, and she didn't even protest. Even if she'll never see home she preferred that to dying here at the hands of this witch.
"Think of home!'
She heard his words and closed her eyes, thinking of endless sky that was home, her sisters, shining and lightening the night sky.
For a moment, she had seen clouds and lightening, heard thunder, and felt rain cover her – they are moving up! And her heart was filled with joy for that moment; she forgot about Tristan entirely, she was going home --!
But then something went wrong, she could not see the sky, and everything went black.
When she woke up again, everything hurt. She sat up on what felt like a bed, trying to make sure she did not break anything again.
…A bed?
She sat up, winching. Her muscles hurt but nothing felt broken. Only she had no idea where she was. The necklace was heavy on her neck as she rose to her feet.
She blinked.
She had no idea where she was. And oddly enough, she was alone. Tristan was nowhere to be seen.
Where has he sent them to? The view from the window did not look like Wall at all.
The absolute moron must have thought of something else but home again.
And got her stuck here, apparently on her own.
Damn him.
She shivered from the cold; walking around the room in confusion when she noticed the odd metal box.
Bending down, she shook it numerous times; pressing on different buttons until it came to life.
While she was startled at first, she was more annoyed than ever before.
Tristan better be here, for his own good.
(And, admittedly, her own.)
Anything else? nope!
